The XXXII International Astronomical Union (IAU) General Assembly (GA) will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, from 6 to 15 August 2024, in person and online. For the first time in the more than 100-year history of the IAU, this meeting will take place on the African continent, a unique opportunity to bring astronomy in Africa to the forefront of communities both in South Africa and globally. The South African National Research Foundation (NRF) is the host of the event, supported by the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the African Astronomical Society (AfAS), working with the National Organising Committee.
To support us in this journey, we’re recruiting a fundraiser for a fixed-term of one year to stimulate interest and investment into astronomy for the African continent, using the IAU GA 2024 as a focal point to showcase the incredible diversity, expertise and talent of African astronomy. We’re looking for a proactive and experienced fundraiser who brings demonstrable experience of high-value fundraising and relationship management coupled with excellent communication and writing skills, the ability to deal comfortably with stakeholders at all levels and a solid understanding of the nonprofit sector in South Africa. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a pan-African organisation with global stakeholders and make a significant contribution to the future of astronomy in Africa for current and future generations.
